Rauw Alejandro

Despacito from Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi The song, as well as Daddy Yankee became the song most streamed at the time within less than six weeks. The single Despacito, which combines pop music with reggaeton was not only a way to bring new attention to reggaeton music but also brought more attention to Latin music. Billboard's Top 100 in 2015 had two tracks that were mostly in the Spanish languages, while the year 2016 saw four. In the midst of Despacito's fame in 2017 there were 19 mostly Spanish tracks which made it into the Top 100. Then in 2020 it was 41. In the wake of Justin Bieber's dual remix to Despacito (2017) well-known musicians soon started collaborating with reggaeton musicians, such as Drake along with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) and Madonna together with Maluma in Medellin (2019). By 2020 a few reggaeton stars were complaining about its inclination towards mainstream but a new generation of performers, including Rauw Alejandro, aimed to keep reggaeton evolving. The musician incorporated electronic dance music as well as other styles into his music.
